Third Quarter Woes Leads To Griffins Downfall To Mighty Macs

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/20/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-11, 0-4) played host to Immaculata University (10-9, 3-2) as the Griffins searched for their first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory this season. At the half Gwynedd Mercy was leading the Mighty Macs 43-35 thanks to a 28-16 second quarter favoring the Griffins. As the third quarter got underway the lead would vanish as Immaculata went on an 8-0 run to start the third quarter and would outscore Gwynedd Mercy 25-8. The Griffins did make a strong fourth quarter push, but in the end fall to the Mighty Macs 75-72. Senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) put on a show in front of the Griffin faithful as she finished with a game-high and tied her season-high with 30 points on 10-of-20 (50%) from the field. Eggers also recorded four rebounds and three assists. 
 
Griffin Highlights: 

  • Senior guard Ava Casale (Washington Township, N.J.) was the only other member of the red and gold to finish with double-digit points (10). Casale also added a rebound and three assists. 
  • Gwynedd Mercy committed to 23 personal fouls compared to Immaculata's 10 giving the Mighty Macs' 31 free throw opportunities and the Griffins only 11. 
  • Turnovers were an issue all game for Gwynedd Mercy as the team committed 20 turnovers leading to 20 points for Immaculata. 

 
Gwynedd Mercy's next matchup is at the Griffin Complex when they host Marywood University on Wednesday, January 24th, for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
