ELMIRA, N.Y. — Keuka College sophomore Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) led the Wolves with 23 points on Saturday but it was not enough as the Women's Basketball team lost at Elmira College 68-49.

Mary Cotter added six rebounds for Keuka College (1-14, 0-7 Empire 8). Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) backed her up in scoring with nine points. Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) led the Wolves with seven rebounds on Saturday.

Elmira College 68 vs. Keuka College 49

The long ball was working early for the Wolves. Mary Cotter made three threes in the first four minutes to give Keuka a 9-5 lead. The run for Cotter went to 12 points with another three as the Wolves stayed ahead. Sydney Brown got in on the three-point party late, hitting a three at the buzzer to give Keuka a 17-10 lead after the opening ten minutes.

However, fortunes flipped for the Wolves in the second quarter. Elmira opened the quarter on a 10-0 run over five minutes to take the lead. Keuka drew it back within one, 20-19, on a layup by Ellen Lavonas, but that would be Keuka's only points of the frame. The Soaring Eagles outscored the Wolves 18-2 in the second to lead 28-19 at the half.

After scoring 28 in the first half, Elmira College nearly doubled that in the third quarter alone, scoring 27 points. The Wolves increased their scoring, netting 14 in the frame, but Elmira led by 22, 55-33, going into the final quarter.

The Wolves attempted to cut into the lead, but Elmira had an answer for every shot. Keuka would get it down to 17 in the quarter, but that would be as close as they would draw it. The Wolves did win the fourth 16-13, but they lost the conference game to Elmira 68-49.
