Redlands Women's Basketball sneaks by Caltech on the road 60-55

PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (8-8, 4-4) got by the California Institute of Technology 60-55 on Wednesday evening in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action thanks to a fourth quarter where they outscored the Beavers by seven.

Colbi Zorich scored the first four points and then assisted on the third as she found AJ Wick for a jumper and a 6-3 lead with 6:27 on the clock.

With 1:38 remaining in the first quarter the Bulldogs found themselves down eight, 16-8, but Carly Hicks responded with a three and Zorich made a jumper off a Hicks assist as they were down five, 18-13, after the first 10 minutes.

In the second quarter Redlands trailed by 12 with only 2:46 left in the half. Leaya Mckinney would scor six of the final eight points with the other two coming from Avery Shiring as they were only down four, 32-28, at the half.

It was more of the same for the majority of the third quarter as the Bulldogs were down eight mid-way through the quarter before they went on an 8-1 run as they went into the final quarter only down by one, 47-46.

A Zorich jumper with 7:05 on the clock the Bulldogs was the game-winner as they would maintain their lead through the end of the game.

In the final 10 minutes it was the Mckinney and Zorich show as they combined for all 14 points and went 6-for-7 from the field. In comparison the rest of the team went 0-for-4.

Zorich had 22 points (9-11 FG, 4-4 FT) and nine rebounds. After a career night against Chapman on Monday, Mckinney had a career-high 19 points (9-10 FG) and tied a career-high nine rebounds. The two of them shot 85.7 percent from the field while the rest of the team only made 21.4 percent of their shots.

The Bulldogs play at 4:00 p.m. at the University of La Verne on Saturday as they look to get their third-straight win which would be a season-high.
