Redlands Women's Basketball complete their comeback in OT at Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (6-7, 2-3) completed a 13-point fourth quarter comeback at Pomona-Pitzer Wednesday evening as they got their second win of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) season, 71-67 in overtime.

AJ Wick made a free throw and Carly Hicks hit a three as they were tied with the Sagehens at four in the first four minutes of the first quarter.

Aliyah Anderson then made it a three-point game, 13-10, after converted on a layup with 2:22 to play. Pomona-Pitzer, though, would end the quarter with the final five points as Redlands trailed by two, 15-13, at the end of one.

Kayden Sanders tied the game at 15 and then Anderson and Wick each scored as they led by their largest margin of four, 19-15, as the Bulldogs held the Sagehens scoreless for the first four minutes.

After a strong start, the Sagehens ended the half on a 19-5 run, putting the Bulldogs down by 10, 34-24.

It was all Pomona-Pitzer in the third quarter as they led throughout and were ahead by as many as 16, 54-38, with 2:36 on the clock before Anderson and Hicks converted on three free throws to end the third as they went into the final quarter down 13, 54-41.

After a slow start to the fourth quarter Anderson found Hicks for a three that got the Bulldogs within single-digits for the first time since there were 42 seconds left in the first half. The run would continue as Colbi Zorich's jumper with 5:03 on the clock made it a two-possession game, 56-52.

Over the final two minutes and 21 seconds the Bulldogs outscored the Sagehens 8-2. The final of those eight points came from Anderson when she drew a foul with just two seconds left and then proceeded to make them both to force overtime.

Those free throws were crucial as the Bulldogs scored five of the first seven points and would pick up the win to keep the Sagehens winless in SCIAC play.

Anderson had a career night with new career bests of 25 points, which included 19 made free throws, and 13 rebounds. Wick also went off with 18 points (8-12 FT) and 16 rebounds, both career-highs. Zorich (12 points) and Hicks (10) also scored in double figures as all 71 of their points came from their starters.

As a team the Bulldogs went 38-of-48 from the line for 53.5 percent of their scoring as they were able to overcome a 27.3 percent shooting mark from the field.

Redlands will look to keep their momentum going as they return to Currier Gym this Saturday, January 13 as they host third place Occidental College at 7:00 p.m. in game two of a doubleheader with the men's team.
