Wolves Fall to Russell Sage College in Women’s Basketball

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost to Russell Sage College 62-34 in an Empire 8 game at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Saturday.

Keuka College (1-10, 0-3 Empire 8) was led by Caiden Crego (Lyons, N.Y. / Lyons) with 10 points. Katie Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) collected seven rebounds for the Wolves.

Caiden Crego made the first field goal of the game to give Keuka a 2-1 lead, but the Gators responded with 12 straight until Crego made another driving layup. Russell Sage extended their lead, holding a 14-point advantage after the first.

The Gators made an early three, but the Wolves would go on a run. The green and Gold rattled off 10 in a row to cut the lead down to seven, 23-16, with five minutes left in the half. Sage responded, but Keuka later cut the lead down to five on a three by Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy). However, Russell Sage scored the final five points of the half to lead 33-23 at the break.

After trading opening baskets, Russell Sage scored nine unanswered to extend their lead. Caiden Crego found Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) under the basket for a layup to end the run. Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) hit a three late for the Wolves but the Gators led 48-30 going into the final quarter.

The visitors closed out the game in the final quarter. Russell Sage outscored the Wolves 14-4 in the frame on their way to the 62-34 conference victory.

  • Sydney Brown's three moved her into sole possession of seventh on the career three-pointer list
  • Keuka College played tough with the Gators in the paint. The Wolves out-rebounded them by two, collecting 40 as a team
  • Ellen Lavonas tied her season-high with six rounds on Saturday
