Another Big Third Propels Royals to Big Win

RALEIGH, NC - It was deja vu all over again for the Royals. 

After using a 19-8 third quarter to put Saturday's game against William Peace away, on Sunday EMU used a 22-4 third quarter to pick up its second straight 20+ point win, taking down Meredith 60-35.

Highlights

First Quarter
After Meredith took a quick 2-0 lead, EMU answered with a 9-2 run, picking up points from Jayla GrayJeriyah OsborneKayla Surles and Trinity Washington. Meredith then used a 5-0 run of their own to pull within two, 9-7, at the end of the first. 

Second Quarter
The Avenging Angels continued their run, tying things at nine to start the second before Osborne put the Royals back on top. Five straight from Meredith gave them a three-point advantage, which they held until Mya Hamlet's layup and-one tied things at 16. MU re-took the lead late in the half with a three, 19-16, but a 5-0 run from EMU, a pair of Washington baskets and one from Hamlet, gave EMU a 22-19 lead at the half. 

Third Quarter
An 11-0 run highlighted the first four minutes of the third quarter, as EMU was able to push their lead to 14 before Meredith was able to get any points on the board. The Royals were able to push their lead to 16 before another Avenging Angels bucket, but that would be all for Meredith, as EMU ended the quarter on a 7-0 run, with Hamlet and Gray adding points late, to take a commanding 44-23 lead. 

Fourth Quarter
Gray, Osborne and Jayda Jones started EMU out on a 6-0 run in the final frame, as they took a 50-23 lead. Meredith was able to put a little momentum together late, picking up a 5-0 run, but Kaliyah Braxton and Shardae Williams pushed the Royals lead back to 27. A layup in the final seconds wrapped up the scoring for Meredith.

What's Next
The Royals will be off until the new year, getting back on the court on Jan. 3 as they head down to Hollins. Tipoff against the Green and Gold is set for 7 pm.
