NEW YORK CITY - Vikings Women's Basketball fell in their first game of their Holiday tournament to the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, 74-40.
The Cru started with a 4-0 run that led to a three from leading Viking scorer, Elly Callihan who had 15 on the day. Callihan remained the only scorer for the first eight minutes of the game for Berry as she sunk 11 first quarter points to try and boost her team. Lauren Ellard jumped in at the two-minute mark with an unassisted three to bring the score within one point at 15-14. UMHB closed out the first with a 7-0 run in a minute for a 22-14 lead heading into the second.
Berry posted another 14-point quarter in the second to try and cut the deficit, but UMHB went 3-4 from beyond the arc to hold their lead. At the half the score was 41-28, UMHB.
Following a tough first half, UMHB continued to capitalize on points in the paint with their size advantage, 42 of their points game from inside.
The Vikings struggled with pressure and their turnovers cost them 35-points for their opponent.
In the fourth, the Vikings held the Cru to their lowest scoring of the game with 14-points but were unable to surpass them in their offensive efforts shooting 14% from the field and only getting to the free-throw line once.
The Vikings continue at their Holiday tournament looking for a win tomorrow against Williams College at 11:00 AM ET in New York City.
