Vikings Secure Home Opener Against Agnes

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Vikings Basketball captured their home opener against Agnes Scott with a blow-out win of 83-29.

With five players in double-figures the Vikings showed no problem on the offensive end for the game. The team shared the ball well with a season high of 19 assists for the game.

Tipping off with a 7-0 run sponsored by a Sarah Wright three and a layup from the second leading scorer in the SAA, Kenadie Lee, the Vikings took a lead they never gave up. After Agnes Scott hit back-to-back triples at the eight-minute mark, Lee, Wright, and Elly Callihan responded with four triples, two from Callihan alone (19-6). The spark of scoring forced a Scotties timeout to regroup as the Cage exploded with pride. Agnes's regrouping effort came up short when Karlee Armstrong banged in the FIFTH three for the Vikings to continue their scoring spurt before closing out the first quarter 22-8.

In the second, Berry continued their game from behind the arc with four made threes, lifting them to almost 63% from three land for the game heading to halftime. The Scotties struggled to find an answer before the end of the first half as they put up ten second quarter points and headed to the locker room down 41-18.

Ten points in two and a half minutes started the second half hot for the Vikings, and you guessed it, two more triples! (53-18) Agnes found their first made bucket at the six-minute mark while Berry's defense held strong. Wood fired one up from outside as the Vikings took their largest lead of the night at 39 points with three minutes to play in the third. The Scotties attempted to cut the lead, but Armstrong held firm for her team with a last-minute jumper to push the lead to 41 at 67-26.

Berry's season high 15 threes was topped with the final made one of the game by McKinley Heiden in the final two minutes of the game, surpassing a 50-point lead on Agnes (81-29). The team held their non-conference opponent to only three points in the fourth quarter as they dominated in every category to put on a show in their home opening win.
