Elkins Scores 17 Points for RMC at Marymount (Va.)

The Basics:

How it Happened:

  • Randolph-Macon took an early 14-11 lead after the first period. Jane Elkins (Annandale, Va./Bishop Ireton) led the scoring with five points and Sam Smith (Chesterfield, Va./St. Gertrudes) followed with four herself. The Yellow Jackets made 6-of-10 shots from the field. Smith also recorded three of the seven steals that RMC managed to get in ten minutes. Kyla Treadwell led the way for Marymount (Va.) with six of the Saints 11 points. 
  • The Saints outscored the Lemon and Black in the second period 10-5. The period saw both teams struggle offensively, as each team combined to shoot 6-for-24 (.250 percent). Bella Bruce (Herndon, Va./Westfield) accounted for three of the five total Randolph-Macon points. Claire Smith scored half (5) of the points for MU (10) in the period. Chandler Eddleton made a driving lay-up with three seconds left to give the Saints a 21-19 lead going into halftime. 
  • The offense picked up in the third period for both sides, as 37 points were recorded in the third ten minutes. Elkins scored the most points for RMC with five to add to her total. Marymount (Va.) converted on 10-of-14 shots, which saw Claire Smith, Treadwell and Eddleton combine for 14 of the 24 MU points. The Saints ended the third period with their biggest lead of the game, as they took a 45-32 lead into the final ten minutes. 
  • The Yellow Jackets outscored Marymount (Va.) 16-11 in the fourth period, but never got back within seven points, as RMC would fall 56-48 on the road. Juliana Park (Fairfax Station, Va./Davidson Day) and Elkins led RMC with nine points in the final ten minutes.   

Inside the Numbers:

  • Randolph-Macon shot 40% from the floor, as MU knocked down 43.4% of their shots.
  • The Saints outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 35-to-23.
  • Elkins ended the night as the leading scorer for RMC with 17 points, the total matched her career high that was set last season at Randolph. The sophomore also pulled down seven rebounds and had two steals. 
  • Bruce scored a career high in points with 11 off the bench. The freshman also had career highs in steals (3) and three-pointers (3).
  • Smith ended the game with six points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.    

For The Record: 

  • Elkins extended her ten point or more scoring streak to seven games in a row. The Virginia native has also recorded ten points in eight out nine games for the Yellow Jackets.
