REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (3-3) played The Master's University (TMU) on Thursday evening inside Currier Gym where they lost 79-65 to the Mustangs.
The Bulldogs fell behind 9-2 in the opening three minutes with AJ Wick converting their lone field goal with Colbi Zorich picking up the assist.
Redlands trailed by 13, 19-6, but they would score seven of the next nine points with five points coming from Carly Hicks and two from Aliyah Anderson as the Bulldogs were within eight, 21-13. After 10 minutes the Bulldogs trailed by 10, 23-13.
After trailing by double figures for the majority of the first four minutes of the second quarter, Wick scored inside and started a 6-0 run and got them within five, 29-24, with 4:22 left in the half. Nataly Bravo made both of her free throws and Zorich assisted Anderson on her jumper in the paint.
The Bulldogs would get as close as four, but an 8-2 Mustang run made it a 10-point game again. Then in the final seconds of the half Avery Shiring hit a three off an Anderson assist to make it a seven-point deficit after 20 minutes.
It was a competitive first five plus minutes in the third as a Zorich jumper made it an eight point game, 49-41, with 4:31 on the clock, the Mustangs, though, ended the quarter on a 14-5 run and led by 17, 63-46, after 30 minutes.
The closest the Bulldogs got to the Mustangs in the final quarter was the final score to end the game at 14, 79-65.
Zorich finished with team highs of 13 points (6-11 FG), eight rebounds, and three assists. All 11 Bulldogs that played scored.
Redlands will now prepare for their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener on Saturday, December 2 at 4:00 p.m. as they host California Lutheran University inside Currier Gym.
