PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State women's basketball team falls to Cortland in their first road loss and State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss of the season. Imani Walcott (Albany, N.Y. / Albany) led the way as she dropped her second double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. She also impacted the game on the defensive end with two blocks which led all players and one steal. 
 
Other contributions to the offensive effort came from Julia Greek (Long Island, N.Y. / Ward Melville) who had 10 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists, and Mya Smith (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) who led the team with four assists and added in five rebounds. Payton Couture (Redford, N.Y. / Saranac) and Bri Brousseau (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) contributed to the overall effort as Couture and Brousseau both had six points each. Couture also impacted the game with eight rebounds and three assists. 
 
For the Red Dragons, Brooke Tillotson led all scorers with 25 points to go along with her five rebounds. Logan Streetygave her team 10 points and eight rebounds to help contribute to the win. 
 
The Cardinals only shot 37.1% from the floor while the Red Dragons shot 42.5%. The Cardinals were hurt by the three as they only made three on 18.8% shooting compared to 13 from the Red Dragons on 33.3% shooting. The Cardinals lost the turnover battle as they had 18 which led to 19 points off turnovers compared to the Red Dragons' 10 which led to 11 points off turnovers. The rebounding battle was close as the Red Dragons had a slight edge by four (44-40).
 
Plattsburgh falls to 3-3 overall (0-1 SUNYAC) and will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 pm as they conclude their road trip with a SUNYAC matchup against Oswego St. Cortland rises to 3-2 overall (1-0 SUNYAC) and will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 pm as they continue SUNYAC play with a matchup against Potsdam. 
 
The first quarter had four lead changes as the Cardinals kept it close in a back-and-forth contest. Tillotson opened the first with a three. Walcott responded with a layup that made the score 3-2 Red Dragons. Less than eight minutes to go the Cardinals scored back-to-back buckets with layups from Couture and Greek that gave them their first lead and made the score 6-5 Cardinals. At the 6:27 mark, the Red Dragons went on an 8-0 run that ended at the 4:20 mark as they took the lead and held it for the rest of the quarter. The Cardinals got a layup from Brousseau at the end of the first that made the score 22-17 Red Dragons at the end of the first quarter. 
 
The Red Dragons got two made free throws from Mariah Huss that opened the second quarter. With less than eight minutes to go both teams exchanged buckets as Tillotson made a layup and Selma Deisz (Bekkestua, Norway / NadderudVGS) a three that made the score 26-20 Red Dragons. Both teams traded buckets again as Smith made a three, Streety a jumper, and Couture a layup that made the score 28-25 Red Dragons. With less than four minutes to play, the Cardinals got points with back-to-back buckets for Walcott that made the score 36-29 Red Dragons. The Red Dragons closed the quarter with four straight points that made the score 42-31 at the half. 
 
The third quarter opened with a layup from Abby Wilkinson followed by a layup from Walcott that made the score 44-33 Red Dragons. With a little over seven minutes to play both teams exchanged buckets as Tillotson made a three and Greek a layup that made the score 47-36 Red Dragons. The Cardinals scored four straight points that made the score 47-40 Red Dragons. With less than three minutes to play the Red Dragons extended their lead to 10 and closed out the third quarter on an 11-2 run that made the score 61-44 Red Dragons. 
 
Jaden Wilson (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnston) opened the fourth with a jumper followed by an and-one layup as she scored five straight points for the Cardinals that made the score 61-49 Red Dragons. With less than seven minutes to play both teams exchanged buckets as Mariah Huss made a three, Walcott a layup, and Sophie Bissaillon a layup that made the score 66-51 Red Dragons. In the last five minutes of the game, the Cardinals were held scoreless as Walcott made a layup at the 5:05 mark which were the last points scored for the Cardinals as they fell 79-53.
