LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ella Haney scored 14 points and Courtney Carruthers added 12 but the Maryville Scots fell 78-52 to Alma on Sunday to conclude their stay at the Pat Deacon Classic.

Haney added seven rebounds and was the only Maryville Scot to record multiple assists, while Carruthers scored in double figures for the second time this season. Kadence Stoner earned her second start of the weekend and posted a game-high and, for her, season-high nine rebounds.

There was one tie and one lead change in the game, and those happened in the first two minutes. After Paige Dickinson scored on a fast-break layup to pull Maryville within 10-9, Alma scored the next nine points for a 19-9 edge. The Alma Scots went on to lead 25-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Lexington product Gracyn Grantz swished a 3-pointer and Carruthers followed with a layup after a turnover to narrow the margin to 27-22 with 7:37 showing in the second quarter. Carruthers scored again for 29-24, but then Alma scored six of the next seven points and it was back to double digits. The Alma Scots went to the locker room leading 43-31.

Alma outscored Maryville 35-21 in the second half, with Haney accounting for five points and Stoner, Carruthers and Ella Tharpe scoring four apiece. Stoner pulled down five of her nine boards over the final 20 minutes, and she also contributed Maryville's lone blocked shot. Another Lexington product, Olivia Cathers, scored five points and led Maryville with a pair of steals.

The Alma Scots put four scorers in double figures, led by 17 from Izzy Alston.

Sunday's loss was the fifth in a row for Maryville, which fell to 1-5. Alma improved to 4-3.
