Bobcats Heat Up Hardwood with 87-40 Opening Night Knockout of UMaine-Farmington

LEWISTON, Maine (Alumni Gym) -- 11 different Bobcats netted points, and sophomore forward Danielle Adams authored her first-career double-double, as Bates College opened its 2023-24 campaign in a colossal way, defeating the University of Maine-Farmington, 87-40, Tuesday evening in non-conference women's basketball action.

The final marks Bates' largest margin of victory since sending off Medger Evers College by 53 points (89-36) last year (Nov. 20) in the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Classic. UMF drops to 1-3 overall with the setback.

Owning a 16-7 lead after the initial 10:00 of play, the garnet and white exploded for a 22-7 spurt to take a first-half high, 24-point advantage (38-14) with 0:55 remaining before intermission. The Bobcats quickly put the Beavers well in the rearview by outscoring their guest by 20 (26-6) in the third quarter, inflating the home team's overall cushion to 64-24 after 30:00 of action.

The aforementioned Adams topped all players with her 14 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes of action for Bates. Senior Davina Kabantu and first-year Mya Hicks each poured in 11 points apiece. Sarah Hughes added seven points and six assists in her first-ever college minutes.

Jessica Dow (Fy.-Saco, Maine) paced the Beavers with her nine points.

The Bobcats will now take to the road for the first time this season as they travel to Plattsburgh State University (N.Y.) on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
