Millikin Women’s Basketball Improves to 2-0

The Millikin women's basketball team picked up its second win of the young season defeating Fontbonne University 86-71 on November 14 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.

Early in the season, Millikin is still getting used to a roster that includes several new faces. With senior Bailey Coffman out of the lineup with an injury, six of the 11 players that saw action for the Big Blue are new to the program this season. Millikin struggled at times during the game, but kept up the defensive pressure and intensity to pull out the victory. Millikin led 19-13 after the first quarter, but got outscored in the second quarter 21-20 to lead 39-34 at halftime. The Big Blue got things back on track in the third quarter outscoring Fontbonne 28-15.

While this year's Millikin team is dealing with lots of changes, senior All-American Elyce Knudsen still comes up big when the Big Blue need her the most. Knudsen tied her career high in points with 41 and grabbing seven rebound along with three steals. Sophie Darden had a double double with

15 points and a career high 15 rebounds.  Sophomore Rachel Holthaus had nine points and six assists. Kyleigh Block added seven points followed by Anna Blank with six.

Millikin shot 44 percent (32-73) from the field and went 7-21 (33 percent) from the field. Fontbonne shot 45 percent (15-19) and stayed in the game with hot three-point shooting making 15-29 (52 percent). Millikin won the rebounding battle 48-32.
