Scots Defeat Methodist in Season Opener

Huskey Records Double-Double in Contest

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Emma Huskey recorded a double-double Saturday to lead Maryville to a 47-43 victory over Methodist in its season opener in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
 
Huskey Scored 10 points and picked up 12 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season. The Junior led the Scots in that category last season with five.
 
Sophie Tharpe led the way offensively for Maryville, scoring a team-high 11 points in the low-scoring affair. Kiley Hicks was the high scorer for the Monarchs, recording 16 points in the contest.
 
Tharpe also created chaos on the defensive end of the floor, recording a team-high three steals in the victory.
 
Maryville found themselves down 12-10 at the end of the first quarter but wasted no time taking the lead in the second. The Scots outscored Methodist 16-9 in the second quarter to take a 26-21 lead into the second half.
 
Methodist gained some ground on Maryville in the third quarter, battling to outscore MC 14-12 to open the second half. It was 38-35 Maryville heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
 
While the whole game was a defensive battle, the fourth quarter took that to an extreme. Both teams scored their lowest points total of the contest in the quarter. Maryville outscored the Monarchs 9-8 in the fourth to close out the contest and secure a four-point victory in its season opener.
 
Ella Haney was the facilitator for Maryville in the contest, recording a team-high three assists to go along with eight points and two rebounds.
 
The Scots are back in action Sunday afternoon as they take on Christopher Newport in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
