Millikin Closes Out Regular Season with Win

The 23rd ranked and 2023 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Regular Season Championship Millikin University women's basketball team closed out the season with a 58-49 win at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin on February 18, 2023.

 

Millikin ends the regular season at 21-4 overall and 15-1 in the CCIW. Carroll falls to 17-8, 12-4. The Big Blue will host the final two rounds of the CCIW Tournament on February 24-25. Carroll, the number two seed, will be in action on Friday at 5 p.m. with the Big Blue taking the court at 7 p.m.

Opening round action featuring the third through sixth seed will take place on February 21.

 

The game was a defensive battle with six lead changes and four ties. Millikin's biggest lead of the game was the final margin and Carroll's largest lead was three points in the first quarter. Millikin lead 15-13 at the end of the first quarter and 34-31 at halftime. The game was tied at 44-44 before Millikin opened the final quarter with a 6-0 run. A steal and basket from Chelsea McCullum put the Big Blue up 50-44 with 6:55 remaining. Carroll then answered with its own 5-0 run and a Katie Evans three-pointer pulled the Pioneers to 50-49 with 3:26 left to play. Baskets by Abby Ratsch and Elyce Knudsen pushed the Millikin lead back to five points and Millikin closed out the game with an 8-0 run.

 

Bailey Coffman led Millikin with 19 points and six rebounds. Coffman went over the 1,000 point mark in her career with the game and now stands at 1,011 career points. Ratch finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Knudsen had a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

 

Olivia Rangel led Carroll with 16 points and Evans finished with 10.

 

Millikin shot 39.7 percent from the field (23-58) and went 4-15 from three-point range. The Big Blue made all four three-points in the first half. Carroll shot 32.8 percent (21-64) from the field and made 7-22 from three-point range. Millikin out rebounded the Pioneers 43-33.
