BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's basketball team held Curry College to just 4-of-26 shooting from the field in the second half and pulled away to an 80-52 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Wednesday evening (Feb. 15).

The Nor'easters (17-7, 13-4 CCC) wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Suffolk University (7-10 CCC). That matchup will likely repeat itself in the No.2/No.7 quarterfinal of the postseason championship which begins on Tuesday (7 p.m.); the official pairings will be released over the weekend.

Keagan Dunbar paced the winning side with the help of 4-of-7 accuracy from long distance, totaling game highs of 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. After one double-double in her first 93 career games, the graduate transfer guard now has three in the last four outings.

Faye Veilleux and Gabby Soter each tossed in 17 points for the hosts, and Soter topped all players with three steals. Grace Boucher and Kaitlyn Santos added seven points apiece, while Mackenzie Burke collected eight boards to support a 40-31 advantage on the glass. The Nor'easters put forth their second-highest field goal percentage of the year, knocking down 30-of-61 attempts.

The Colonels (6-18, 2-15) received 17 points and six caroms out of Lauren Dunn. Kathryn Dunn chipped in with 10 points -- all during the first half. Curry managed to connect at a 45 percent clip prior to intermission, but its struggles against the UNE defense down the stretch resulted in a final shooting rate of 32 percent (18-for-57).

The Nor'easters jumped out to a 12-4 lead following a three-point play by Boucher in the opening frame, however the margin was just two (16-14) through 10 minutes. The visitors were able to edge in front three times late in the 2nd quarter (28-27, 29-28, 32-30), and things were level at 34-all at the break. UNE was hampered by 13 turnovers in the half.

The initial field goal of the 3rd gave Curry a 36-35 cushion with 7:06 on the clock, but UNE kicked it into high gear from there. The hosts hit their next four shots to take control for good (44-36) -- capped by a Dunbar trey. After four points by the Colonels, the Nor'easters then struck for 15 unanswered in a 4:13 span that crossed over into the 4th period (59-40, 9:05 remaining).

Soter's 10 points in the penultimate stanza were more than Curry's entire squad (6), which went 2-for-12 from the floor and turned it over on seven possessions. UNE scored 12 off those trips, and held a 15-point lead heading into the closing frame.
