William Paterson Women's Basketball Drops Senior Day Contest to Rutgers-Camden

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (14-10, 9-8 NJAC) fell 64-55 on senior day to Rutgers-Camden (4-20, 2-15 NJAC) Feb. 11 at the Sports and Recreation Center.


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Scarlet Raptors jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the opening 10 minutes after shooting an efficient 10-of-16 (.625) from the floor.
  • The Rutgers-Camden lead grew to as large as 15 (40-25) after a made 3-pointer to start the second half, but with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter, senior Justina Cabezas buried a jumper to spark an 8-0 William Paterson run that brought the Pioneers within seven (42-35).
  • The Pioneers made several attempts to chip further into the deficit, but the Scarlet Raptors continuously had an answer and ultimately secured the 64-55 road win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Freshman Renee Wells scored a team-high 13 points to pair with 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
  • Senior Yakira Rosa logged 11 in the scoring column to go with six boards.
  • Junior Brianna Smith poured in 10 points.
  • Cabezas fell just shy of a double-double after scoring nine points and reeling in 10 boards.

 
UP NEXT:

  • The Pioneers will head to Mahwah, N.J., on Wednesday, Feb. 15, to wrap up the regular season against Ramapo with tipoff slated for 5:30 p.m.
