Carruthers Records First Career Double-Double

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Courtney Carruthers recorded her first career double-double to lead Maryville to a 59-49 victory over conference foe Huntingdon on Saturday.

Carruthers led the Scots with 18 points and picked up a career-high 11 rebounds. The senior guard has 56 career games played but until today she had never recorded double-digit rebounds or a double-double.

Madison Williams followed with 10 points and five rebounds of her own to round out the double-digit scorers for MC.

The Scots burst out the gates with a strong first quarter. An 11-3 run to start the quarter turned into a 16-7 lead at the conclusion of the opening 10 minutes.

Huntingdon turned the tides in the second quarter, outscoring the Scots 14-11 before the half. The Hawks found themselves down by 14 with 6:33 remaining in the quarter before going on a 12-4 run to finish out the half.

The second half was as evenly matched as could be with Maryville outscoring Huntingdon by just four points in the final 20 minutes.

Maryville shot 43.9 percent from the field in this contest, its second-best performance of the season behind only its game against Birmingham-Southern in December, when the squad shot 48.6 percent.

The Scots continued their dominance on the boards, outrebounding the Hawks 43-36. MC ranks second in the CCS in rebounding margin, grabbing 5.4 more rebounds than its opponents.

After a four-game road trip, Maryville returns home Tuesday to take on Covenant in the Cooper Athletic Center. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
