Camels Come Up Short vs. Amherst

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped a 58-47 decision to Amherst College on Friday night in NESCAC action at Luce Field House.

Kori Barach (Carlisle, Mass.) posted game highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead Amherst, which improved to 15-7 overall and 3-5 in league play. Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) paced Conn with 14 points and six rebounds while Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) added 13 points and nine boards.

After a layup by Abby Ilusorio (San Diego, Calif.) provided the game's first points, Amherst responded with 12 straight points and never trailed again. Maya Cwalina (Middle Village, N.Y.) scored 10 points during the run, and the Mammoths allowed only one more field goal en route to a 14-6 lead by the end of the quarter.

Barach netted seven points in the second period as Amherst shot 7-for-12 as a team and bumped the lead to 34-17 at intermission. Cwalina led all scorers with 14 points in the half.

Conn made up some ground in the third quarter, outscoring Amherst to the tune of 10-6. In the fourth, Rojik and Oberman-Levine carried the offensive load and brought the Camels back to within five with 4:45 to play. The duo combined for 17 points in the final stanza, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Mammoths.

Conn College (7-13 overall, 1-6 NESCAC) will next host Hamilton College on Sunday, February 5 at 3:00 p.m.
