Four Spartans scored in double figures to lead the Spartans to one of their best offensive performances of the season, as the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team defeated Brandeis University 86-67 at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland on Friday night.

The Spartans improved to 13-6 overall and got back to .500 in University Athletic Association play with a 4-4 conference ledger. Friday's win also assured the Spartans their first winning season since the 2018-19 campaign. Brandeis dropped to 6-13 with the loss, including a 1-7 league mark.

Junior guard Margaret Terry and junior forward Kayla Characklis led the Spartans with 16 points each. Terry finished the game shooting five-of-eight overall and four-of-seven from three-point range, while adding six assists. Characklis hit eight-of-10 shots in just 20 minutes of action and added six rebounds. Senior guard/forward Isabella Mills added 15 points, a team-high eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and sophomore guard/forward Lucy Vanderbeck matched her career-high with 14 points.

With the score tied at 15-15 with 2:43 left in the first quarter, the Spartans scored the final five points of the period on a three by Mills and a layup by Terry to take a 20-15 edge in the second frame. The Judges pulled back within two, cutting the Spartans' advantage to 21-19 by the 8:58 mark, before a 7-0 spurt by CWRU, capped off with a Mills layup, extended the lead to eight points, 28-20. Brandeis once again trimmed CWRU's lead back to a possession with 6:27 left in the half, but an 18-5 run by CWRU to close out the first half gave the Spartans a 48-32 edge by the break.

The outcome was never in doubt during the second half, as CWRU maintained a double-figure lead over the final 20 minutes and led as many as 28 points on three separate occasions.

CWRU finished the game shooting 45.6% overall and 40.6% from three-point range. The Spartans forced 16 turnovers in the game and outscored the Judges 20-9 off turnovers.

Friday night also marked the kickoff of Throwback Weekend at CWRU, as the Spartans donned the traditional uniforms of Mather College, one of the schools that merged to form Case Western Reserve.

The Spartans will continue their four-game home stand on Sunday, February 5 against seventh-ranked New York University. Tip-off from Horsburgh Gymnasium is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
