Women’s Basketball Score 106 as They Win Away Against Keuka

KEUKA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team traveled to Keuka for a Tuesday night Empire 8 matchup. The Cardinals claimed a 106-29 victory over the Wolves, thanks to a 30-point first quarter. With this win, Fisher's record improves to 17-2 overall and 12-0 in Empire 8 conference play, with the Wolves moving to a record of 3-16 on the year and 0-12 in the Empire 8.

The first quarter started out fast, with Sidney Tomasso picking up a three-pointer and a layup in the first minute. 40 seconds later, Tomasso struck again with a three-pointer, Fisher leading 8-3. The Cardinals kept putting on the pressure, with Katie Moravec, Presleigh Brunner, Claire Kruszka, and Tomasso all scoring before the Wolves got back on the scoreboard. The quarter ended with the Cardinals going on an 11-point run that was highlighted by Kruszka's two good three-pointers, the quarter ending 30-8. Fisher continued this run into the second quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points, started by Kaitlyn Walker scoring a layup that saw her get on the scoreboard. The half ended with Walker making two free-throws and the Cardinals only gave up one point in the quarter and led 56-9.

In the second half, the Cardinals continued their dominance, with Walker scoring a layup and a jumper before the Wolves responded with a layup. Brunner quickly responded with a three-pointer, starting a 12-point run. Both teams started to trade baskets, with Hannah Ferguson getting on the scoreboard with a good three-pointer, putting the score at 77-16. The quarter ended with Lauren Nawojski scoring a good jumper that put the Cardinals up 85-21. The final quarter started with Keuka scoring a layup, and Ka. Moravec responding with a three-pointer, starting a 15-point run that involved points coming from Kruszka, Tomasso, Emily McLaughlin, Julia Perales, and Kelly Moravec. Allie List and Lauren Petrie both got on the scoreboard as the half ended with the Cardinals winning 106-29.

Tomasso led the game scoring 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field, picking up four rebounds, and playing 24 minutes. Kruszka also had a strong performance, picking up 16 points, eight steals, five assists, and five rebounds for an all-around game. Brunner scored 16 points while picking up four rebounds and two steals. Walker had the most rebounds for the Cardinals with nine, while scoring 15 points and picking up four assists.

The Cardinals return home on Friday, Feb. 3. They take on Medaille College for a 5:30 p.m. Empire 8 matchup.
