NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Jasmine Choi recorded her first double-double of the season and fourth of her career as the Carleton College women's basketball team came out on top, 66-57, against Saint Mary's University on Saturday afternoon. The game was tied at 49-49 before the Knights closed the contest on a 17-8 run.

"I'm pleased with how we responded to another tough MIAC battle," said Carleton head coach Tammy Metcalf-Filzen. "We continue to improve as we are getting better contributions from our young players coming off the bench. The challenge now is to recover and be ready for our crosstown rival!"

Aiana Whitfield had 16 points to pace four Carleton (6-11, 5-10 MIAC) players in double figures. Amelia Solt chipped in 13 points, and Bella Thomas tallied a career-high 11 points. Choi finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Knights shot 41.7 percent overall and 44.4 percent (8-of-14) from beyond the arc.

Brooklyn Paulson paced Saint Mary's (5-13, 4-11 MIAC) with a game-high 19 points. The Cardinals pulled down 17 offensive rebounds and enjoyed a 14-3 edge in second-chance points, but the Carleton defense held the visitors to 30.8 percent shooting overall and a meager 6-of-34 (17.6 percent) from beyond the arc.

Carleton never trailed in the contest. The Knights raced out to an early 8-2 lead behind a pair of 3-pointers from Solt, led 15-9 after the first quarter, and scored the first seven points of the next stanza to build their largest lead of the day at 22-9. The Cardinals cut into the deficit and closed to within 33-29 by halftime.

It was still a three-point margin, 44-41, heading into the final quarter, before Saint Mary's pulled even at 49-49 with 7:34 remaining. That was the first time the score was tied since 0-0, but Carleton would not surrender. A minute later, a traditional three-point play for Thomas gave the Knights the lead again, Liz Hiatt followed with a 3-pointer to make the score 55-49.

The Cardinals scored the next five points to pull within 55-54 with 3:56 still to play, but Choi hit a tough layup and Solt drained a triple to push the lead back to 60-55 with 2:21 still on the clock. The Knights sealed the win with four free throws in the final 35 seconds.
