ARLINGTON, Va. -- With her final bucket of the evening at Marymount University (15-4) on Wednesday night, graduate student Sondra Fan slid into the top-ten all-time in scoring at Christopher Newport with 1,328 career points. Fan had 19 against the Saints, helping lead the top-ranked Captains (18-0) to a 69-52 win on the road.

Needing 17 points to tie Misty Hart and Cathy Skinner for ninth on the career scoring chart, Fan scored just three points in the first half. She rallied after halftime, however, knocking down 7-of-9 field goal attempts for 16 points after the break to continue to add to her impressive career resume. The Poquoson, Va. native is the first player to break into the top-ten since Chelsie Schweers in 2008-09; Fan reached the top ten in her 103rd career game.

In addition to a dominant second-half scoring effort, Fan also filled the stat sheet with a team-high five assists, grabbed four rebounds, and two steals. She was joined in double figures by senior forward Anaya Simmons, who was 6-for-9 from the field for 15 points. She also had an oustanding total effort against the Saints, hauling in seven boards, dishing four assists, and snagging three steals.

The duo helped anchor a second half outburst that saw Christopher Newport shoot 57.7 percent as a team (15-26) and outpace the home team by 14. CNU led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter before settling for the final verdict, 69-52.

The victory was the 27th consecutive road win, adding another to the program record and the nation's longest winning streak as the visiting team.

In the contest, Christopher Newport shook off a slow start that included foul trouble and an uncharacteristic shooting performance in the first half. Marymount jumped out to an early 8-3 lead thanks to a four-point play by Symantha Shackelford, but the Captains rebounded quickly, putting together a 10-2 roll to end the first quarter with a three-point lead, 13-10. Fan buried her only bucket of the first half with a buzzer-beating three-pointer off a feed from Camille Malagar to take the lead.

Simmons scored the first four points of the second quarter to finish out the 14-2 and give the Captains a 17-10 edge, but the home team rallied to cut the lead to one minutes later. CNU never relinquished the first half lead, though, and finished out the second quarter with a matching three-point lead, 25-22.

After a back-and-forth start to the third quarter, the teams were deadlocked at 36 points apiece with 4:53 showing on the clock after a pair of free throws by Chandler Eddleton for Marymount. That's when the game swung, as Christopher Newport closed the third quarter on a 14-1 burst in the final five minutes, holding the Saints without a field goal for nearly six minutes. Lauren Fortescue knocked down a three-pointer and added a mid-range jumper from just inside the top of the key to lead the way in the spurt while Fan and Simmons also played pivotal roles.

Scoring seven of the first eight points of the fourth quarter, Fan took over to give the Captains an 18-point lead just over two minutes into the final frame. Simmons then scored four straight and Alivia Giles added a free-throw as CNU took a 63-42 lead with less than five minutes remaining. The visitors coasted from there, capturing the team's 18th straight victory.

The 18-game roll now stands as the fourth longest win streak in program history, passing a 17-game hot streak in 2015-16. It is also tied for the 17th longest winning streak for any sport in Christopher Newport history.

The Captains will stay on the road this weekend as they travel to Pratt Institute on Saturday, January 28 and then on to New Jersey City University on Sunday, January 29.
