SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – January 21, 2023 – The Terriers lost 61-31 to Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon at Pam Evans Smith Arena. The Tigers have now won 10 games in a row.
Hiram saw 8 different players record at least two points, with Haley Thompson leading the charge with a team-high 12 points. Brooke Hickman was active on the boards with a game-high 13 rebounds – including 6 offensive rebounds – to go along with 5 points and 3 blocks.
The Terriers forced 20 turnovers on the defensive floor, giving them 8 games this season with 20+ takeaways (4-4 record in such games).
Wittenberg was led by Jazmyn Gaines-Burns (13 points) and Jade Simpson (12 points).
Hiram fell behind early, with Hickman, Maddie Rakestraw and Thompson scoring early baskets but Wittenberg finishing the first quarter with an 18-6 lead. Over the entirety of the first half, the Terriers scored 10 of their 11 points in the painted area.
The end of the third quarter provided a spark, with Thompson outscoring the opposition on her own, 5-2, over the final 4:30 of the quarter. Thompson also recorded a steal during that span.
Thompson followed her third quarter performance up with another three-pointer to begin the fourth quarter, but Wittenberg would outscore Hiram by 6 points in the period to seal the win.
Hiram will look to get back to its winning ways on Wednesday at Kenyon beginning at 6 p.m.
