Geneva, NY – With nearly as many points in the first half as the team scored in either of its previous two games, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team's offense produced from start to finish, as the Golden Knights defeated William Smith College 74-52 in Liberty League action Friday evening.

The Green and Gold improved to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in Liberty League games, while William Smith saw its record fall to 5-10 and 3-5. Clarkson will face RIT on Saturday afternoon.

William Smith scored the first two points of the game on free throws on its opening possession, but that was the only time that the Herons would lead in the first half. Clarkson had an impressive stretch of 3-point shooting in the latter half of the opening quarter, as Raelin Burns hit a pair of long-range shots around a Cassidy Dumont 3-pointer to give Clarkson a 13-point edge after the first 10 minutes. The strong shooting did not stop in the second quarter, as Clarkson enjoyed another big run to close out the period. Beginning with a 3-pointer from Raelin Burns at the 5:12 mark, Clarkson ended the half on a 15-3 run, taking a commanding 21-point lead into the locker room.

Clarkson shot 9-for-15 from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half, while the Herons did not make any shots from outside in four attempts. Clarkson also scored 12 points off nine William Smith turnovers, and the Knights' two turnovers did not result in any points for the home team. Burns had 11 points in just nine minutes, and Dumont also scored 11 points in the first half.

William Smith picked up its play in the third quarter, getting the margin down to 14 on several occasions and as low as 12 with a little over a minute to go in the period. However, Clarkson responded with a burst of scoring in the fourth, as Cassidy Dumont hit a jumper at 7:56, followed with a 3-pointer 36 seconds later, and then hit another 3-pointer just 33 seconds after that for eight points in barely a minute, putting the Knights back up by 20. The next possession saw Mariah Benavides hit a 3-pointer to give Clarkson its biggest lead of the game to that point, and the Knights cruised from that point on for a lopsided win.

The Golden Knights' 22-point victory was their second-largest win over William Smith in program history, coming up short only of a 36-point victory that came in the 2014-15 season.

Cassidy Dumont scored a season-best 26 points, shooting 10-for-19 from the floor and 6-for-9 from the 3-point arc, while Elaina Porter added 17 points and eight rebounds. First-year collegian Raelin Burns also tossed in 13 points and snagged six boards.

For William Smith, Lauren DeVaney had a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Brooke Jarvis was just short of those numbers with 12 points and eight boards, while Maddie Patrick also kicked in 11 points for the Herons.
