MILTON, Mass. -- Faye Veilleux and Keagan Dunbar combined for 41 points and the University of New England outscored Curry College by 22 following halftime on the way to a 71-58 triumph in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Thursday evening (Jan. 5) at Katz Gymnasium.

The Nor'easters (8-4, 4-1 CCC) faced their largest deficit of 16 late in the 2nd quarter, but Veilleux (5) and Dunbar scored the last seven to get back within single digits (37-28) at the break. In the 3rd, Dunbar (9) and Veilleux (8) continued to lead the charge back, and Kaitlyn Santos capped the frame with two free throws to give UNE the advantage for good (49-48). The Nor'easters, who gradually built up the cushion in the 4th, connected at a 50 percent clip from the floor during the final 20 minutes.

Veilleux finished with a career-best 21 points, largely behind 9-of-13 shooting from the field. The junior forward also notched her first-ever double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds, and added three steals as well as two blocks. Dunbar reached the 20-point mark (or more) for the third time this season, and collected seven boards.

Gabby Soter added eight points and a couple of blocks, while Juliana Tracey tossed in seven points. Jordyn Franzen contributed six points and five assists. UNE posted a 42-29 margin on the glass and had a 23-10 scoring edge at the charity stripe, despite missing six tries in the waning minutes of the contest.

For the Colonels (5-7, 1-4 CCC), Kaitlynn Smith tallied 13 and Kathryn Dunn went for 12 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Dunn recorded eight points, five assists, and three steals.

Curry raced out to a 13-2 lead in the 1st stanza and settled on a 21-12 spread after 10 minutes. The hosts hit five treys in the quarter, which was part of a 24-6 advantage from behind the arc in the game.
