Giannopoulou's Double-Double Guides Guilford to Victory

The Guilford College women's basketball team traveled to Salem, Virginia to take on the Roanoke College Maroons. The Quakers came out ahead, winning 73-51.

The Quakers started the game out hot with a 10-2 run backed by Lindsay Gauldin and Anna Giannopoulou with four points each. The Maroons were able to claw their way back into the game by the end of the first quarter the Quakers were up 19-16.

At the start of the second quarter, Guilford went on another mini-run of 11-2 to make the score 30-18. Roanoke and Guilford continued to trade buckets until the end of the half. The score at halftime was 37-24 in favor of GC. 


In the third, Guilford was able to build on its lead finding itself up 20 points. The Quaker's defense was able to hold Roanoke to 13 points in the third while scoring 21 of their own points. GC found itself infront by 21 (58-37) at the end of the third. The Quakers were able to keep this lead for the remainder of the game and prevented any hope of a comeback for the Maroons.

The Quakers dominated the rebound category with 53 rebounds to Roanoke's 31. Guilford used the rebounding margin and tallied 24 second-chance points. The Quakers were led by Anna Gianopoulou with a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds. Carleigh Perry scored 14 points on 50% shooting as Gauldin added 13 points, five assists, and four rebounds. 

Guilford's next game is an ODAC matchup at Bridgewater College on Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 p.m.
