The University of Rochester women's basketball team won its sixth straight game and remained perfect on its home floor in 2022-23, defeating visiting Case Western Reserve University 77-50 on Friday evening at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

#10 Rochester improves to 12-1 overall on the season and is just one of two unbeaten teams in the University Athletic Association after the opening two games of conference play. The Yellowjackets 2-0 record sits tied atop the conference standings with Washington-St. Louis. The loss drops CWRU to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in UAA play.

Graduate student Katie Titus led the Yellowjackets with 26 points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes. She showed her range, making a season-high six 3-pointers.

Maura Leverone added 10 points and four rebounds for Rochester, while Abby Gress scored 10 points in just eight minutes off the bench, playing in her first game action since November. Both Alexis Sestric and Kelsey Stites added eight points and five assists, while Callie McCulley had a solid all-around game with 6 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks.

The Yellowjackets combined to drain 13 three's in the victory, third most in school history and the most since UR made 15 against the Spartans back in the 2019-20 season.

The opening quarter saw the Yellowjackets edge ahead in the early going, sitting up seven following a Titus triple with under four minutes to play, but the Spartans closed the quarter on an 8-2 run to close within one after the first ten minutes. Preet Gill had five points in the run for CWRU, while Isabella Mills added a 3-pointer.

A big run late in the first half proved to be the deciding factor, as Rochester scored 14 of the last 17 points over six and a half minutes to surge into intermission up 15, leading 38-23.

Stites got the run started with a 3-pointer from the corner and after McCulley put one in, Leverone made one of her two triples on the night. Sestric, Raquel Williams and Titus finished off the spurt with buckets inside for the Yellowjackets.

Four minutes into the third quarter, Rochester made three straight from long range, one by Leverone and two by Titus to earn a 22-point cushion, up 49-27.

Rochester cruised the rest of the way, not allowed the Spartans within 17 points down the stretch, eventually leading to the 27-point win. The Yellowjackets now have won 13 in a row against CWRU and are 42-15 all-time against the conference rivals.

The weekend continues on Sunday when Rochester hosts Carnegie Mellon at 2 pm in the Palestra.
