Hiram Loses At Oberlin, 79-48

OBERLIN, Ohio - January 12, 2023 - Hiram put together a productive second half in a 79-48 loss to Oberlin on Thursday evening.

The Terriers trailed by 33 points at the intermission before outscoring their opposition, 30-28, in the second half. Hiram shot 44% (7-16) and held its opponent to a 35% clip (6-17) in the fourth quarter alone.

Brooke Hickman recorded 13 points, 9 rebounds and a career-high 3 assists. Taylor Valaitis added 11 points – her 3rd double-digit scoring game of the campaign – to go along with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

The loss moves Hiram's record to 6-7, 0-2 NCAC with 12 conference games still remaining on the winter slate.

It was a tough start for the Terriers, with Oberlin scoring 51 of its 79 points over the first two quarters. Alyson Jefferson, who finished with a game-high 18 points, was part of that efficient offense throughout the contest.

Hiram got things rolling on the defensive end after halftime, particularly with its perimeter defense. Oberlin went 0-11 on three-pointers in the second half.

Haley Thompson, Hickman and Valaitis accounted for the majority of the team's offense in the third quarter before 5 different players made a field goal in the fourth. Breyana Buxton capped off the strong fourth quarter with a three-pointer in the final minute of the game.

The Terriers will return home and take on Denison on Saturday at 2 p.m. from Price Gymnasium.
