HOBOKEN, NJ (January 7, 2023) -- The King's College women's basketball team posted a late surge in the fourth quarter, out scoring #22 Stevens Institute of Technology 19-14 in the quarter, but the final efforts fell short as the Monarchs dropped a 64-41 decision in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Saturday afternoon in Hoboken, NJ. With the loss, the Monarchs drop to 2-12 with a 1-5 MAC Freedom mark, while the Ducks improve to 12-2 and 5-0 in the conference standings.

Stevens (12-2, 5-0 MAC Freedom) stormed out of the gates as they took a commanding 27-4 lead after the first quarter of play. The King's (2-12, 1-5 MAC Freedom) defensive intensity picked up in the remainder of the game, but the Monarchs could not match that defensive effort with their offense, trailing 50-22 heading into the thrilling fourth quarter of play.

The Monarchs offense was firing on all cylinders in the final stanza, highlighted by three threes from junior Brenna Costello, as King's closed within 64-41 before posting the final tally on the road in the MAC Freedom match up.

Costello led King's in the scoring column, posting 10 points while pulling down a team-high tying eight rebounds, while sophomore Lauren Casey came up just shy of a double-double with nine points, eight caroms, and two steals. First year Juleesah Hines dished out a team-leading two assists, while Kiersten Krouse connected for eight points.

Three different Ducks finished with nine points, as Danielle Cornetta posted nine points with a team-high three assists, while Amber Porrett pulled down a team-best six boards with four steals.

As a team, the Monarchs defense collected 11 steals on 17 Ducks turnovers.

King's will continue their brief road stretch as they travel out to Williamsport, Pa. on Wednesday, January 11 to take on Lycoming College. The MAC Freedom contest is set for a 6:00 p.m. tip off.
