Conn WBB Tops St. Joseph's (LI)

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) scored a career-high 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 67-45 win over St. Joseph's on Monday evening at Luce Field House.

The Camels dominated throughout, scoring a season-high 67 points and will head into the semester break on a two-game winning streak.

In addition to Donadio's first career double-double, senior Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) recorded 14 points and Molly Cronin (Wellesley, Mass.) had a game-high six assists.

Conn trailed 6-5 early on in the first quarter, but the hosts went on an 18-3 run to conclude the opening frame. Rojik scored eight points during the stretch, making an impact with buckets inside the paint.

The Golden Eagles bounced back heading into the second quarter, cutting the lead to single-digits after scoring eight of the first 11 points of the stanza. But Donadio then hit her second three of the game to end the run. First year Avery Burns (Orleans, Mass.) scored five consecutive points, and the Camels took a 36-28 lead heading into the halftime break.

Conn really broke the game open, outscoring the Golden Eagles 18-3 in the third quarter. The Camels forced seven turnovers and held the visitors to 1-15 from the field. Additionally, Conn made all 10 of its free throw attempts, including four from Rebeca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) who scored six points and grabbed six boards during the quarter.

Trailing 54-31 going into the fourth, Alyssa Adomaites and Lanyah Ford hit back-to-back threes to cut into the lead, but the Camels continued to push the pace. Rojik scored an additional four points down the stretch to seal the 67-45 victory.

The Camels dominated down low, outscoring the Golden Eagles 32-2 in the paint. Conn doubled up the visitors, 24-12, in second chance scores.

Connecticut College (3-6 overall) wil break for the remainder of the semester and return to action at the Basketball Destinations Classic in Naples, Fla. on December 29.
