Cortland Wins at Brockport, 71-41, for Sixth Straight Victory

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Cortland women's basketball team improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in SUNYAC play and handed host Brockport its first league loss with a 71-41 win over the Golden Eagles. 
 
Casey Travers (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) led the Red Dragons with 16 points and five assists and also grabbed seven rebounds. She was 7-of-13 from the field with two 3-pointers. Nyia Longford (Medford/Longwood) also made two treys and ended with 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. 
 
Corinne Miedreich (Pearl River) hit 5-of-8 shots and finished with 11 points. Sarah Tully (East Aurora) and Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) each added eight points. Tully led Cortland with 12 rebounds and Morano had four rebounds, three assists and a team-high four steals. 
 
Zairea Hannah paced Brockport (3-3, 2-1 SUNYAC) with 14 points, 16 rebounds and three steals. She was 7-of-13 from the field. Anna Felice finished with 11 points. 
 
Cortland, which has won six straight games, shot 35 percent from the field and 30 percent (9-of-30) from the 3-point arc. Brockport was held to 25 percent overall shooting and 17 percent (3-of-18) from deep. 
 
Cortland never trailed in the contest. The Red Dragons extended an early 5-4 lead to 11-4 on baskets by Travers, Morano and Longford just before the first media timeout. Cortland led 16-8 after one quarter and outscored the Golden Eagles, 14-4, in the first five minutes of the second quarter to push its lead to 18 points. The lead was still at 18 points, 35-17, at halftime, grew to 20 points in the first four minutes of the third quarter, and was at least 24 points the entire fourth quarter. 
 
The Red Dragons remain on the road for SUNYAC play next weekend, Dec. 10-11, with games at Plattsburgh Saturday at 2 p.m. and Potsdam Sunday at noon.
