Cortland Women Defeat Geneseo, 82-61, Behind Morano's 26 Points

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) scored 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field as the Cortland women's basketball team opened its SUNYAC schedule with an 82-61 win over visiting Geneseo.
 
Casey Travers (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) finished with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting along with five rebounds and four steals. Nyia Longford (Medford/Longwood) added 10 points and team highs of six rebounds and four assists, while Maggie Malone (Cornwall) and Corinne Miedreich (Pearl River) scored seven points apiece.
 
Geneseo (2-2, 0-1 SUNYAC) was led by Hannah Stockman with 15 points. She made 6-of-9 shots from the floor. Lauren Romito registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Kerry Dennin just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.
 
Cortland shot 51 percent from field overall and 38 percent (8-for-21) from the 3-point arc. Geneseo ended at 43 percent shooting overall and 4-of-12 from deep.
 
Cortland led 21-15 after one quarter and quickly pushed its lead to 13 points at 29-16 just over a minute into the second quarter. The Red Dragons held a 38-23 advantage with 3:08 left in the half after a Morano layup and despite her going to the bench 25 seconds later with her second foul still led by 14 points, 42-28, at halftime. Cortland's lead remained in double figures the rest of the game.
 
Cortland will play at Fredonia Friday at 5:30 p.m. and at Brockport Saturday at 3 p.m. in league action.
