FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball started off strong in the first half but fell short in the second half in a loss to Penn State Harrisburg 69-62.
Inside the Box Score
- Philippa Clouse (Olney, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) recorded a career-high 19 points, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor.
- Marlise Newson (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) had eight points, six assists and five rebounds. The senior also blocked three shots in the game.
- Na'Vaye Quarles (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) had 11 points on the night, shooting 4-for-8, with five rebounds.
How it Happened
- Hood came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, hitting 50 percent from the field in each of the first two periods.
- The Blazers made their first four shots of the game with Clouse accounting for six of those eight points to help pull Hood ahead early 8-4.
- Kendis Butler hit a 3-pointer for the Nittany Lions that tied up the game at 12-12 with 3:13 left in the first period, but Hood ended the first period in front 18-15.
- Hood opened up the second quarter on an 11-5 run, aided by the play of Newson who scored five points in four minutes. The Blazers shot 5-for-6 in that four minute span to grab their biggest lead of the game 29-20.
- PSUH's Giahny Correa made a driving layup with 30 seconds left to bring the Nittany Lions within 37-34 at the half.
- Butler hit two 3-pointers in the first four minutes of the third period during an 8-0 run to give PSUH its first lead of the night 42-37.
- Clouse made a layup with just under four minutes to go in the third quarter to bring Hood within three. That would be the closest Hood would get as PSUH ended the third period with the lead 52-48.
- With the shot clock about to expire, Lele Wright (Wilmington, Del./Howard) made a step-back 3-pointer to give Hood the lead back early in the fourth period 53-52.
- The Nittany Lions used two more 3-pointers during an 8-0 run that reclaimed the lead 60-53.
Analysis
- The Blazers shot 48 percent in the game, while PSUH checked in at 32 percent.
- PSUH went 18-for-27 from the foul line (67 percent). Hood finished just 5-of-9 (55 percent).
- The Blazers committed 25 turnovers in the contest, while the Nittany Lions turned it over 15 times.
For the Opponent
- Correa hit 5-of-10 field goals, she also went 7-9 from the foul line, while hitting two 3-pointers to lead PSUH with 19 points off the bench.
- Jayla Galbreath finished the evening with 13 points, six rebounds and three steals.
- Butler hit three 3-point shots in a 10-point afternoon.

- Hood dropped to 2-3, while PSUH improved to 2-3.
