FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball team dropped its season opener against St. Mary's College of Maryland by a score of 76-58. 

Inside the Box Score

• Lele Wright (Wilmington, Del./Howard) and Marlise Newson (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) each scored 11 points to lead  the Blazers. 
• Kayla Watkins-Harvey (Largo, Md./Largo) grabbed 11 rebounds and added eight points, two shy of a double-double. 
• Snoop Robinson (Atlanta, Ga./Holderness) went 2-for-3 on 3-point field goals, totaling six points on the night.

How it Happened

• The Seahawks opened the game converting on 3-of-4 shots to get ahead 8-3 just over three minutes into the game. 
• The Blazers got as close as three in the first quarter, 14-11, when Lele Wright (Wilmington, Del./Howard) drove through the lane to make a contested layup.
• St. Mary's closed out the first quarter on a six-point run courtesy of back-to-back 3-pointers by Williams and Samantha Blaylock. The Seahawks ended the first quarter out in front 22-13.
• Hood outscored St. Mary's in the second quarter 21-18. After being down 25-15, the Blazers went on a 10-2 run in a four-minute stretch. . St. Mary's took a timeout with the score 27-23 Seahawks after a bucket by Watkins-Harvey.
• St. Mary's built  its lead back to nine, Before Hood ended the half down 40-34.
• The Seahawks pushed their lead out to double digits in the third quarter, thanks to a 14-2 run that was led by Williams and Howell. 
• St. Mary's led 58-42 after the third quarter and stretched it to 20 with 2:28 left in the fourth, 72-52.

Analysis

• St. Mary's held the field goal percentage advantage 43 percent to the Blazers 34 percent.
• Hood outrebounded the Seahawks 38-34 in the game.
• The Blazers' bench outscored St. Mary's 31-2.  
• Hood went 5-for-15 from 3-point distance (33 percent), while holding the Seahawks to 4-for-16 (25 percent).

• Williams led the Seahawks with 31 points, and grabbed six rebounds in the game.
• Howell recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
