HARRISONBURG, Va. – The EMU women's basketball kicked off the holiday weekend with a bang.

Mya Hamlet notched a double-double, Lauryn Moore dropped 13 points and the EMU defense held Regent to single-digit points in each quarter as the Royals of EMU downed the visiting Royals of Regent, 58-31.

Highlights

First Quarter

Regent hit a three to take an early lead but a bucket and-one from Trinity Price tied things at three. The teams traded points before back-to-back buckets by Hamlet gave EMU their first lead of the game. After Regent made a basket to pull within one, Hamlet knocked down another shot to give EMU an 11-8 lead after one.

Second Quarter

RU hit a pair of free throws to pull within one to start the second but EMU answered with a 10-0 run to take an 11-point lead. Regent was able to pull within eight at 21-13 but Laila Glymph, Caris Lucas and Trinity Washington scored seven straight to send EMU to a 28-13 halftime lead.

Third Quarter

Hamlet opened the quarter on a 5-0 run, pushing EMU's lead to 20. The Royals cut EMU's lead to 19 before Brii Redfearn knocked down a three to push the advantage to 22, 40-18. Regent ended the quarter on a 4-0 run and went to the fourth trailing 40-22.

Fourth Quarter

Much like Hamlet did in the third, Moore opened the final frame outscoring Regent 7-2 and EMU outscored them 13-2 in the first 5:20 of the quarter. A couple free throws from RU chipped into the lead but it was never in jeopardy as EMU played lockdown defense. Donesha George added a bucket in the game's final seconds to put the finishing touches on the night for EMU.

Hamlet - 15 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals

Moore - 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks 

Redfearn - 3 points, 10 rebounds

What's Next

EMU will have time off for Thanksgiving break before returning to the court next Wednesday to continue ODAC play. They'll head to Winchester for a 7 pm matchup against Shenandoah.
