Keuka College Women’s Basketball Falls in Pennsylvania

CRESSON, Pa. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Sunday to Penn State Altoona 84-73 to close the Mountain Valley Tipoff Classic.  

Keuka College (2-2) had three players in double figures, led by Killian Mahoney (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) with 18 points. Meg McGwin (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) had 16 points and Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Penn State Altoona 84 vs. Keuka College 73

The Lions led early, but Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) tied it and a steal and layup by Meg McGwin gave the Wolves the lead in the first quarter. Altoona used a 9-0 run in the final minutes to take a 25-16 lead after one.

Penn State Altoona used a run of seven points to push their lead to 15 midway through the second quarter, but the Wolves answered right back. The Green and Gold scored six straight to get it back to single digits, but a pair of late free throws for Altoona pushed the lead back to 11, 45-34 at the half.

Much like Saturday, Keuka College did its best work in the third quarter. The Wolves went 5-7 from deep with Killian Mahoney knocking down three threes herself. Despite being 47% from the floor and 71% from three, Penn State Altoona kept the quarter close. The margin was only four with the Wolves outscoring the Lions 25-21. Penn State Altoona led 66-59 going into the fourth quarter.

The Wolves continued the momentum into the fourth quarter. Keuka scored the first four points to cut it to a three-point game, 66-63. The Wolves had a three to tie the game, but it was off. Their hot shooting did not translate from the third as the Wolves were 0-6 from three in the final quarter. Altoona responded with 11 unanswered to put the game away. The Lions defeated the Wolves 84-73 on Sunday.

Up Next for Keuka College: After two weeks of the season, the Wolves finally get to play a game on their home floor. Keuka College will host former conference foe Cazenovia College at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22. It will be the 57th all-time meeting between the Wolves and the Wildcats.
