WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Carroll University women's basketball team fell to No. 4/No. 8 Wisconsin-Whitewater on the road Friday night. A back-and-forth game fell away from the advantage of the Pios. Allison Thompson scored a career-high 19 points with 11 rebounds for her second career-double double. Three different Pios added three assists.

The Pioneers (1-1) out-shot the Warhawks in every category, but Carroll was held to 37& shooting from the floor and 23.5% from three. Katie Evans and Chloe Halverson both knocked down a pair of threes in seven combined attempts to lead the team. Carroll was out-rebounded 36-43 but held the advantage in bench points and fast break points. Foul trouble for the Pioneers sent the Warhawks to the line 24 times. The congest had eight lead changes and the game was tied six times. Carroll held a lead for almost 20 minutes.

After a 4-4 start to the game, the Pioneers began to separate after a three-pointer from Halverson, and the lead was pushed to five thanks to Olivia Rangel's steal and layup. Carroll ended the first 10 minutes holding the Warhawks to eight points. Thompson scored her sixth point of the night to start the second quarter after her third rebound. The Warhawks cut the lead to one midway through the quarter, but a Thompson lay in helped keep Whitewater away for the time being. UWW took the lead with 13 seconds left in the first half largely in part to eight free throws made in the quarter.

The Pios came out with a purpose in quarter three, scoring 19 points on 50% shooting. Thompson scored seven straight points for the Pios trying to get the lead back in control. Evan's pull-up jumper inside the paint pushed the lead back over to Carroll with 6:37 to go in the quarter. Halverson knocked down a jumper to give Carroll a six-point lead, but the Warhawks crawled back and made it a two-point game going into the fourth. Whitewater officially regained the lead with 7:13 to go in the fourth and advanced it to seven points with 3:51 remaining in the game. Thompson helped get Carroll back down to a two-point deficit, but more free throws for the Warhawks put them back up two possessions as the time ran out.

Carroll returns to UW-Whitewater's campus tomorrow night to take on UW-Stevens Point at 7 PM in the final day of the UWW Tip-off Classic.
