BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England tallied nine of the last 11 points to secure a 57-51 women's basketball victory against the University of Southern Maine in the season-opener for both teams on Tuesday evening (Nov. 8) at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters (1-0) trailed at three instances on the night, including 47-46 and 49-48, but a jumper from Juliana Tracey with 2:32 to go restored the lead for good. The Huskies had two possessions down one (52-51), but came up empty, and Tracey added three free throws in the waning seconds to salt the contest away.

Graduate student Keagan Dunbar had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the way in her UNE debut. Cameron Watkins added 11 points, six boards, and three steals off the bench. Jordyn Franzen tossed in eight points, and Tracey supplied seven to go with four steals. Kaylee Beyor contributed four rejections on the defensive end.

Amy Fleming put up 16 points and eight rebounds for Southern Maine (0-1). Franny Ramsdell and Maria Degifico went for 12 and 10 points, respectively. Ashlee Aceto also shared the game-high of eight caroms, helping the visitors to a 42-38 edge on the glass.

The Nor'easters broke away from an early 6-all tie and closed the 1st quarter on an 11-2 run. With the first two points of the 2nd, the gap reached its largest of the match (19-8).

USM trimmed it to five a few times in the 3rd, and then during the initial portion of the 4th, an 11-0 stretch by Ramsdell (6) and Fleming momentarily flipped the edge (47-46).

UNE will now head to the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament and a date with national preseason No.7 Smith College on Saturday.
