Kate Majerus shoots Hope past Marietta

Kate Majerus was a hot shot for the Hope College women's basketball team.

The senior forward sparked the Flying Dutch to an 85-66 victory against Marietta College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament by scoring a career-high 20 points.

No. 2-ranked Hope (28-1) advanced to face Millikin University (Ill.) in next week's sectional semifinals at a site to be announced.

Majerus buried a career-high six 3-pointers on 10 attempts.

They were the most 3-pointers by a member of the Flying Dutch in an NCAA Tournament since Brittany Berry's five during a 2015 second-round victory against Wisconsin Lutheran.

Majerus buried two 3s during a 24-point second quarter that pushed Hope to a 34-22 halftime lead. The score was tied 10-10 after the first quarter.

Junior guard Ella McKinney chipped in 17 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers.

Hope finished with 12 3-pointers.

Senior center Olivia Voskuil totaled 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Flying Dutch.

Senior guard Kenedy Schoonveld added 10 points.

Marietta (22-6) was led by guard Devin Hefner's 20 points off the bench.
