Women’s Basketball Falls to Ranked Cardinals

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Friday at #23-ranked St. John Fisher College 72-35 in an Empire 8 Conference game.  

Keuka College (1-20, 0-13 Empire 8) was led by Meaghan McGwin (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) with nine points and six rebounds. Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) added eight points in the loss.

The Wolves struck first on Friday as Killian Mahoney (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) knocked down a three for the first basket of the game. Following six straight by the Cardinals, Katherine Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) hit a three to tie the game at 6-6 midway through the first. The Wolves later took the lead on a Deatherage free throw, but the hosts regained the lead. St. John Fisher led 10-8 after the first.

St. John Fisher outscored Keuka 10-2 over the first six minutes of the second quarter. The Wolves got a layup from McGwin and a three by Mahoney, but the Cardinals scored the final four points of the half to lead 29-15 at the break.

The Green and Gold had their best scoring output in the third quarter. The Wolves got two baskets from McGwin and one from Lauren Hill in the third. The Wolves also made it to the free-throw line, going 5-6 from the stripe. Unfortunately for Keuka, St. John Fisher had their best quarter of the game, scoring 22 in the frame to lead 51-26.

The Cardinals saw the game out in the final quarter. St. John Fisher outscored the Wolves 21-9 in the fourth on their way to the 72-35 victory.

  • Keuka College lost their 30th straight game to St. John Fisher. The Wolves are 2-34 all-time against the Cardinals
  • It was the fourth time Keuka has faced a ranked St. John Fisher. Overall, it was the 14th time Keuka has tipped off against a ranked team. The Wolves are still looking for their first win over a ranked team
  • Meaghan McGwin tied for the team lead in rebounds with six. The junior now has 200 rebounds in her career
  • Megan Brown (Middleburgh, N.Y. / Middleburgh) also had six rebounds for the Wolves
