DUDLEY, Mass. -- Allie Goodman led five players in double figures as the University of New England built a 24-point halftime cushion and coasted to a 98-71 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball victory over Nichols College on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 4) at the NC Athletic Center.
With their fifth triumph in the last six outings, the Nor'easters reach the .500 mark (5-5) heading into a month-long break. UNE stands 3-0 in league games, while it was the first CCC match for the Bison (4-4 overall).
It was UNE's highest point total since dropping 101 on Nichols in February 2016. Contrary to leading for just 11 seconds in a win on Wednesday, the Nor'easters never trailed and were up for over 39 minutes in the contest. The visitors not only shot 55 percent (37-for-67) from the floor, but also amassed a 68-26 advantage in the rebounding department.
Goodman had nine caroms to go with her game-high scoring output, which came largely behind 9-of-10 accuracy from the field. Jordyn Franzen tallied 19 points and six boards, and Kaylee Beyor had 18 points with nine rebounds. Abby Cavallaro went for 12 points, seven boards, and six assists, while Juliana Tracey put up 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Tracey had four in a quick 9-0 spurt as UNE broke away from the game's only tie (8-8), and six by Goodman fueled an 11-0 run in the 2nd that pushed the spread north of 20 (39-18). The margin was 51-27 at the midway mark, and was anywhere from 21 to 31 during the 3rd and 4th quarters.
The Nor'easters overcame 41 turnovers and 29 fouls by holding Nichols to 25 percent shooting (18-for-72), which included 9-of-39 from downtown.
Abrianna Vazquez led the Bison with 17 points, and Erin Cann had 14 with seven steals. Haley Houghton tossed in 11 off the bench.
