Neumann Outpaces Marywood in Atlantic East Action

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Marywood University 66-56 on Monday evening in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
 
Madison Stewart led the Knights with 19 points. Terea Hunt tallied a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The junior also added six assists and was one of three players with a pair of blocks. Dymond Collins and Lauren Klieber each also notched two blocks.
 
With the Pacers leading by one, 5-4, midway through the first quarter, the Knights netted the next nine points for a 13-5 advantage. Marywood pulled back to within two, 13-11, but Neumann ended the quarter netting 10 straight points for a 23-11 lead after one.
 
The Pacers came rallying back in the second quarter and tied the game at 27 in the final minute before the half. A jumper by Klieber and a layup by Stewart gave the Knights a 31-27 edge at the break.
 
Marywood scored the first five points of the second half to take a 32-31 edge. A jumper by Allyson Wills and a layup by Hunt put Neumann up 35-32 with 6:10 left in the third quarter. Neither team found the basket again until Aubrie Breisblatt hit a layup with 2:18 on the clock. The Knights built up an eight-point advantage, 42-34, heading into the final quarter.
 
The Pacers chipped their way back to within six, 59-53, with 1:12 left in regulation. The Knights went 5-for-6 from the line in the final minute to hold off any comeback and take the 66-56 win.
 
Neumann (8-11, 3-3 Atlantic East) returns home on Wednesday to host Gwynedd Mercy. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
