MARIETTA, Ohio — Turnovers and cold shooting costly as No. 14 Baldwin Wallace University defeated No. 19 Marietta College by the score of 74-48 Saturday (Jan. 29) afternoon. The loss drops Marietta to 16-3 overall and 9-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Baldwin Wallace improves to 13-3 on the season and 10-1 in conference games.
"We didn't have a very good effort today," Marietta head coach Kole Vivian said. "Their pressure really sped us up and we didn't handle that well. And they were able to live in the paint against us."
Baldwin Wallace scored the first four points of the game and never trailed as the Pioneers were forced to play catchup all afternoon. The Yellow Jackets gradually pulled away and led by 11 points, 32-21, at halftime.
The Pioneers tried to mount a comeback in the third quarter, but BW shot over 50% from the floor to keep Marietta in check.
The Yellow Jackets scored 28 points off Pioneer turnovers in the game and added 44 points in the paint.
Erin Hahn led Marietta with 13 points and six rebounds. Kelly Levering added eight points and six boards, while Makenzie Wilson and Olivia Gribble each chipped in with six points.
Lilly Edwards paced the Yellow Jackets with a game-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds. Emily Lyon finished with 11 points and three rebounds.
Marietta travels to New Concord on Wednesday (Feb. 2) for a 7 p.m. tip-off against rival Muskingum University.
