Rose-Hulman Pushes No. 3 Transylvania to Overtime Before Narrowly Falling

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology took the No. 3 ranked Transylvania Pioneers into overtime before narrowly falling 72-68 at Hulbert Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Transylvania improved to 14-0 on the season and 6-0 in HCAC play with the victory.  The Pioneers are ranked No. 3 nationally by both D3hoops.com and the WBCA this week.

Rose-Hulman led for much of the second half, stretching the lead to eight points at 57-49 with 8:05 remaining on a 3-pointer by Jamie Baum.

Transylvania trimmed the margin to 62-59 with 3:31 left, but Rowan Hein added another jumper at the 3:17 mark to give the Fightin' Engineers a 64-59 lead.

Transylvania relied on their defense and a key 3-pointer by Kennedi Stacy at the 1:26 mark to force overtime with the score tied at 64-64.

In overtime, Laken Ball hit two three-pointers to push Transylvania ahead 70-64 with 1:37 left.  Two free throws from Baum and a driving score by Hein closed the Fightin' Engineers to within 70-68 with 44 seconds left.

Ball scored the game's final basket with 16 seconds left to secure the 72-68 win for the Pioneers.

Madison Kellione led Transylvania with 28 points.  Ball scored 14 points, Stacy added 12, and Dasia Thornton had 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Pioneers.

Four Rose-Hulman players reached double figures, led by Rose Burnham with 14 points to go along with 7 rebounds.  Jamie Baum added a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.

Ashley Black scored a career-high 12 points on 4-5 from the field and 3-4 from 3-point range.  Jordan Barlow scored 10 points, and Hein added 7 points and 6 rebounds.

Rose-Hulman stands 6-5 overall and 4-2 in HCAC play.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action at home against Hanover on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
