MARIETTA, Ohio — Kate Liston and the No. 22 ranked Marietta College women's basketball team dropped a barrage of three-pointers on Heidelberg University as the Pioneers trounced the Student Princes, 91-52, Saturday (Jan. 15) afternoon in Ban Johnson Arena.
Liston nailed six treys in the first half and finished with seven in the game. The Pioneers connected on 18 total triples setting a new Marietta College single game record. The old record of 16 was set last season at Wilmington.
"That was a really fun game. We moved the ball really well and our energy was great from start to finish, Marietta head coach Kole Vivian said. "Everyone brought us something tonight that was positive. And to set a three-point record again, that was a lot of fun for our players."
Keyed by four three-pointers from Liston, Marietta erupted for a 21-4 run building a 17-point lead in the first quarter. The Pioneers led 23-9 heading into the second quarter.
The offensive outburst continued in the second period as the Pioneers started the quarter with a 13-2 run. A three-pointer from Devin Hefner at the 1:39 mark extended the lead to 33 points, 47-14.
Marietta took a 49-18 lead into halftime as Liston matched the Student Princes with 18 first-half points. A jumper from Hefner with 2:11 remaining in the third quarter gave Marietta its biggest lead of the day, 44 points, 72-28.
Coach Vivian cleared his bench for the fourth quarter, but the three-pointers kept coming as the Pioneers buried four more in the final period. All told, 10 different Pioneers hit at least one triple in the game.
Liston led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, all coming on seven three-pointers. Olivia Gribble drained three triples and finished with 11 points. Hefner chipped in with nine points and a career-best seven assists.
Erin Hahn added seven points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Camille Cummins grabbed seven boards and blocked three Student Prince shots.
Marissa Thomas led Heidelberg with 17 points. Hallie Rogers and Taylor Ratliff each pulled down five rebounds for the Student Princes.
Marietta, winners of eight straight games, hosts Capital University on Wednesday (Jan. 15). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Ban Johnson Arena.
