SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team used a stifling 18-4 first quarter to cruise to its sixth straight win, rolling past the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets, 68-46, on Saturday afternoon at Maggs Physical Activities Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Kaylee Otlowski nailed a jumper on the Sea Gulls' first possession of the game. After Juliana Park tied it for the Yellow Jackets at the 7:38 mark, Jada Welbon sliced in for a layup to put SU back up 4-2, and Salisbury would never relinquish the lead again.
• Ashlynn Burrows took a feed from Lauren Fortescue and hit one from the baseline to make it 6-2 Sea Gulls, then after an answer from Paige Anderson it was the Fortescue-to-Burrows connection again to rebuild the SU lead to 8-4 with 5:05 to go in the first quarter.
• After the media timeout, Fortescue drained one from three-point range at the 4:09 mark to make it 11-4 Salisbury. Both teams went cold for the next two minutes, then Abby Wilkinson broke the freeze with a triple to get it to 14-4 at the 1:48 mark.
• A Kylie Webb steal set up an Emily Dilger layup on the Sea Gull end, then a swipe from Welbon eventually led to a Wilkinson layup, capping a 12-0 Salisbury run with an 18-4 lead as the first quarter came to an end.
• Becca Anthony got R-MC back into it with a layup at the 8:50 mark of the second quarter. Both teams traded buckets, then Fortescue muscled her way inside for a hoop and a harm, eventually converting the free throw to make it 23-8 Sea Gulls with 7:30 until halftime.
• With Salisbury holding a 26-14 lead at the 5:18 mark, Devan Conrad hit a jumper for the Yellow Jackets, then Conrad stole the ball and found Haley Pasqualone for an and-one layup, cutting the R-MC deficit to 26-19 with 4:25 to go.
• Wilkinson provided the answer and more for Salisbury, nailing a triple on the next possession to get it back to 29-19. Wilkinson then knocked one down from mid-range, and after a Pasqualone three-pointer Wilkinson matched it with another from downtown for eight straight points to make it 34-22 Sea Gulls at the 3:07 mark.
• After Pasqualone hit one-of-two from the line, Otlowski and Burrows both hit twos to build the lead to 15, then Burrows found Otlowski inside for a layup with the clock winding down, giving Salisbury a 40-23 cushion headed into halftime.
• The Yellow Jackets made their halftime adjustments and held SU off the scoreboard for nearly four minutes to start the third quarter. In that timespan R-MC went on a 6-0 run, using a Catherine Kagey layup to get back within 40-29. Dilger eventually broke up the run with a jumper at the 6:16 mark to make it 42-29.
• With Salisbury up 43-31 at the 3:42 mark, Anthony hit a pair of free throws, then after both teams came up empty on dueling possessions, Cheridan Hatfield nailed one from distance to get R-MC within 43-36 with 2:29 to go in the third. Welbon and Wilkinson each hit field goals in the final two minutes of the quarter, though, pushing the Sea Gull lead back to 47-36 at the horn.
• The Sea Gulls came out flying to start the fourth as Fortescue found Otlowski for a jumper and Fortescue connected from deep to make it 52-36 at the 8:42 mark. Park and Anthony hit back-to-back threes for R-MC to get it back to 52-42, but Hailey Ader countered with a putback layup and Fortescue sank two from the line to swing it to 56-42 with 6:42 to go.
• Salisbury's lead stood at 58-44 with 3:49 to go when the Sea Gulls put it away for good. Webb started the run with a layup, followed by layups from Dilger and Fortescue to get it to make it a 20-point lead at 64-44. The Sea Gulls ended up closing the game on a 10-2 run, earning their fourth 20-plus point win this season, 68-46.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Abby Wilkinson came up big off the bench for the Sea Gulls, leading the team with 15 points (6-of-9), including a trio of three-pointers, in 24 minutes.
• Lauren Fortescue scored in double figures for the 10th straight game to open the season, netting 13 points (4-of-13) to go along with five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
• Kaylee Otlowski registered a well-rounded stat line, scoring nine points (4-of-11) with seven rebounds, five assists and four blocks.
• Ashlynn Burrows chipped in nine points, while Emily Dilger returned to action with six points in 18 minutes off the bench.
• The Sea Gulls shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the floor, their second time this season shooting 50 percent or better. SU knocked down five of its 10 three-point attempts.
• Salisbury outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 36-30, with each team hauling in 10 offensive boards.
• The Sea Gulls forced 17 turnovers, going plus-two in the turnover margin, and swiped 11 steals.
• At 8-2 and with a six-game winning streak to boot, Salisbury is off to its best 10-game start since an 8-2 flourish to open the 2018-19 campaign.

RANDOLPH-MACON GAME NOTES

• Becca Anthony and Cheridan Hatfield led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with nine points apiece, combining to go 7-of-19 from the floor.
• Haley Pasqualone added seven points in 10 minutes off the bench.
• Catherine Kagey netted four points (2-of-7) and hauled in 10 boards.
• Randolph-Macon shot just 34 percent (18-of-53) for the game, including 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from distance.
• All three of the Yellow Jackets' losses this season have come at the hands of Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) teams. R-MC bowed to Christopher Newport, 95-60, on Nov. 20 and suffered an 84-79 overtime defeat at Mary Washington on Nov. 29.

UP NEXT

• The Sea Gulls close the month of December with a pair of two-game tournaments, starting with the Jamie L. Roberts Classic in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 20-21.
• Salisbury will face William Smith on Dec. 20 at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup against Pfeiffer on Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. Both games will be at the DuFour Center on the campus of the Catholic University of America.
