BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Carroll University women's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the 2021-22 season on the road to the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan by a score of 62-75. Elizabeth Behrndt and Katie Rohner led with 12 points each, while Natalie Palzkill was the third leading scorer with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Pioneers (5-1, 0-1 CCIW) committed 30 turnovers tonight, the most since January 20, 2018. Carroll managed to finish the night shooting 44.9% from the floor, but made just three, three-point baskets on 11 attempts, and finished just 15-24 at the free-throw line. The Pioneers finished with 34 points in the paint, 27 points off the bench, and collected 18 points off turnovers to go along with 15 steals.

The Titans jumped ahead early and never looked back, starting a 23-7 run to open the first quarter. Carroll got back-to-back buckets by Behrndt with less than a minute remaining to cut the deficit to 12 going into the second quarter. Olivia Rangel (7 PTS, 4 STL) came away with a steal from the Titans in their first possession of the second quarter and followed it up with a three-point and-one play on a driving layup. The Pioneers worked the score down to four with 2:54 remaining, but the Titans finished on a 6-0 run to go into halftime with a 10-point lead.

The Titan's largest lead of the game came in the third quarter, as they took control by 20 points with 3:58 remaining. Palzkill did her best to cut into the lead with two free throws a minute later. Carroll scored eight points to end out the quarter, thanks in large part to Chloe Halverson's (3 PTS) three free-throws to finish the third quarter down 16 points. The Pioneers' comeback attempt was alive and well, being down just eight with 6:16 remaining, but IWU ended the game on a 10-5 run to close Carroll out.

The Pioneers face top-25 ranked Wheaton College on the road on Wednesday, December 8.
