OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Hood College's Morgan Anderson had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the women's basketball team to a 58-53 win at Stevenson University in the first Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth game of the season.

Anderson got going early as she scored seven of her 16 points in the first quarter, but the Blazers trailed 16-13. Hood held the Mustangs to 11 points in the second on just 4-of-18 shooting and forced six turnovers to claim a 28-27 lead at halftime.

After Stevenson reclaimed the lead with the first five points of the second half, the Blazers scored the next six points to take a 34-32 lead on a free throw by Anderson with 5:50 left in the third. Denia Campbell tied the game for the Mustangs before Jenna Davis-Hans drove to the hoop, made the layup and was fouled. The first-year knocked down the free throw to give Hood the lead for the rest of the quarter.

Hood carried a 43-41 lead into the fourth, but back-to-back scores by Stevenson gave the Mustangs a two-point edge. The two teams were tied three times before the Blazers took a 53-51 lead on a basket by Anderson with 3:19 to go and Hood never trailed again. Analysis

The Blazers improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth. The Mustangs sank to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the conference. This was the first conference game for both teams.
